Pau d'Arco and Inflammation

As a natural anti-inflammatory, Pau d'Arco may be useful in fighting against inflammation. Before you use it for this purpose, talk to a medical professional about this possibility, and mention any medical conditions you may have or other herbs or medications you may be using. The same also applies to other items that are mentioned here as anti-inflammatories, whether intended for that condition or others.

Turmeric

This herb is also an anti-inflammatory. It comes from what is known as the ginger family of plants. Turmeric contains an amount of up to five percent of curcumin, which is the active ingredient. Turmeric is also used for a number of other purposes. For instance, it can be used as a dye. It also provides a particular flavor, and therefore is frequently employed as a spice. Among its other uses are also additional claims of medical benefits, such as for patients with arthritis or Alzheimer's disease.

Ginger

Aside from Pau d'Arco, another herb which some people use for targeting inflammation is ginger. As can be understood from the previous section, it is found in the same family as turmeric. Ginger has been seen as useful in fighting against some forms of nausea, and may also be beneficial in some other medical circumstances.

Diet modifications

Another thing that can be used to attempt to stop inflammation, aside from Pau d'Arco and the other herbs mentioned on this page, is alteration of one's diet. Adding ginger and turmeric as spices in a person's meals is a possibility. Many vegetables and fruits are also useful as anti-inflammatories. In general, taking in a lesser amount of refined carbs is an option here. Extra virgin olive oil may also be useful.

Certain kinds of fish contain high amounts of omega-3 fatty acids, and can be useful in such a diet. Some people take this a step further by simply ingesting fish oil, whether in capsules or liquid right from a bottle. It is also thought to be useful in other situations, such as high levels of triglycerides in the blood and high blood pressure. Potential side effects and precautions are in play for fish oil, specifically at levels of ingestion that are particularly high.
